Renowned speaker and Creative Director of Kess Millinery and Beads, Lady Elizabeth Kesewaa Nortey, has stated that silent defiance can be more dangerous, deadly and harder to detect than overt and aggressive forms.
In an interview with hostess Nana Asabea on Plan B FM’s social and lifestyle programme “Nyansapɔ Fie”, Lady Kess, as she is affectionately known, said such individuals often engage in subtle acts of defiance to retaliate, prove a point, or assert their position, frequently playing office politics to maintain their status.
“Such people deliberately will never contribute to the success of the company and only talk to discourage others and bring them down, and even take pride in doing so,” she disclosed.
Rev. Michael Yaoo Banson, Resident Pastor of Rehoboth Holyfire Revival Ministries International, added that defiance stems from rebellion, a form of protest arising from frustration and self-assertion. He drew a parallel between teenagers seeking autonomy from parental guidance and adults exhibiting similar behaviour in the workplace.
“Some forms of defiance can be destructive, while others can be constructive, representing a courageous stand for what is right,” he noted.
