A 24‑year‑old trader accused of placing a heated stone between the thighs of a seven‑year‑old girl at Maamobi in Accra has appeared before the Gender‑Based Violence Court.

Ayishatu Zakari, charged with causing harm, is alleged to have heated a stone in a fire, scooped it with a spoon and placed it between the minor’s thighs after accusing her of bed‑wetting.

She pleaded not guilty.

The court, presided over by Mr. Kwabena Kodua Obiri Yeboah, admitted her to bail in the sum of GHC30,000 with two sureties and ordered her to reappear on January 6, 2026.

The court also directed the Police to take custody of the victim and hand her over to her biological mother, after being informed that the child’s father was suffering from a stroke.

The minor is reported to have undergone two surgeries.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Opoku Aniagyei, said the complainant, whose name was withheld, is a trader residing at Maamobi with Zakari.

The victim, aged seven, is a pupil.

In 2023, following the death of the victim’s aunt, with whom she had lived, the child went to stay with the accused.

Prosecution said Zakari repeatedly accused the victim of bed‑wetting.

On October 23, 2025, Zakari allegedly heated a stone, removed it with a spoon, and placed it between the child’s thighs.

She then bathed the victim before sending her to school.

During breaktime, a friend sat on the victim’s lap while they played, causing her to cry and fall.

The friend saw the burns and reported the matter to a teacher, who informed the headteacher.

The headteacher invited Zakari, but she failed to appear.

The friend’s father later reported the incident to the Nima Police, who issued a medical form for the victim.

The prosecution said Zakari was arrested and admitted the offence in her cautioned statement.
