Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations Sam George has lodged a formal complaint with the appropriate authorities following serious allegations made against him in a video circulating on social media.
In the video, a man alleges that Sam George placed him under surveillance and subjected him to continuous hacking. He further claims that he reported the alleged conduct to the Ghana Police Service during the tenure of former Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, but that the matter was covered up.
The man also alleges that his only brother was assassinated as part of an attempt to silence him, and links the alleged incidents to November 2023.
Sam George has rejected the allegations, describing them as serious claims without basis or supporting facts.
According to the Minister, the alleged incidents occurred in November 2023, when he was not serving as Minister for Communications and therefore did not hold the ministerial office or authority that the allegations appear to attribute to him.
He said the claims amount to allegations of serious criminal conduct and could damage his reputation.
Sam George said he has consequently formally reported the matter to the authorities and requested that the individual behind the allegations be invited to substantiate his claims.
He said the move is intended to allow the appropriate authorities to investigate the matter and establish the facts in the interest of justice.
The allegations have emerged amid renewed public discussions about surveillance, cybersecurity and the use of digital technologies in Ghana. Ghana’s legal framework provides mechanisms for lawful interception and monitoring of communications under specified conditions, including judicial oversight in relevant circumstances.
