Rev. Maxwell Buddie has urged parents to strike a healthy balance between love and discipline, cautioning that over-pampering children can hinder their growth into responsible and resilient adults.
Speaking on Nyansapo Fie on Plan B FM with host Akosua Gyamfua, Rev. Buddie referenced Hebrews 12:6, explaining that God’s discipline is an expression of love rather than punishment. He noted that correction and rebuke help individuals recognize their mistakes, develop humility, and embrace positive change.
According to Rev. Buddie, just as a loving father disciplines his children to build character and prepare them for life, parents have a responsibility to guide and correct their children so they can become independent and responsible adults.
He also cited Psalm 144:1—”He teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight”—to emphasize that parents must intentionally equip their children to face life’s challenges. He stressed that discipline, guidance, and responsibility help children acquire the wisdom, resilience, and confidence needed to navigate adulthood successfully.
Rev. Buddie warned that one of the greatest mistakes in modern parenting is over-pampering children. While children deserve love, care, and support, he said constantly meeting every need without assigning responsibilities can leave them dependent and unprepared for life’s realities. Such children may grow into adults who expect others to solve their problems, making it difficult for them to thrive in their careers, relationships, and society.
He encouraged parents to correct inappropriate behavior early and instill values such as respect, accountability, and integrity instead of allowing excessive affection to replace proper upbringing.
In conclusion, Rev. Buddie emphasized that responsible parenting is not about shielding children from every hardship but about preparing them to face life’s challenges with maturity, confidence, and strong moral character.
