Morning Show Host, David Kobbina has been severely assaulted by some thugs who were allegedly providing security for the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East Constituency, Mavis Hawa Koomson during vetting of Parliamentary aspirants at Cape Coast in the Central Region.
The victim was wrongfully accused of insulting the MP who doubles as Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture during a discussion segment on United Television.
Mr. David Kobbina was part of many journalists who had gone to report on the ongoing New Patriotic Party vetting of Parliamentary aspirants at the Central Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in Cape Coast.
While sitting under the RCC shed charging his mobile phone, some thugs who were in Mavis Hawa Koomson’s T-Shirt together with a macho men providing security for the Mfantseman MP signaled him to meet them halfway.
As he approached them, they accused him of verbally abusing the MP/Minister but the victim vehemently denied knowledge of it.
Mr. David Kobbina in an interview said further proved his innocence by showing them his Cape FM identify card and stated categorically that he had not been part of any UTV discussion.
Again, he clarified that he is the Host of the morning political talk show on Cape Coast based Cape FM and not a Correspondent for UTV as they are claiming.
But they refused to accept his claims and pounced on him, slapping and kicking him several times causing him to fall to the ground in a clear case of mistaken identity.
The victim was saved by his colleagues Journalists who rushed to the scene following his incessant screams for help.
He was then sent to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for treatment, while the suspect ran away from the vetting ground.
Journalists in the Central Region are seeking justice for their assaulted colleague, urging to the Police to act now especially as the country nears general elections.
Meanwhile, Ghana Journalists Network (GJN) in the Central Region has in a Press statement has condemned the barbaric attack on Cape FM journalist, and demanded arrest of attackers.
