Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has defended his team selection following Ghana’s elimination from the FIFA World Cup, insisting every player featured when the situation demanded it.
Addressing questions over his squad choices, Queiroz responded to criticism surrounding the limited involvement of some players, including striker Thomas Asante, whose performances in previous matches had earned praise from supporters.
“They played when it was necessary to play,” the Black Stars coach said, maintaining that every selection was based on the tactical demands of each game rather than individual form alone.
Thomas Asante was among the notable absentees from Ghana’s starting lineup for the crucial Round of 32 encounter against Colombia, a decision that sparked widespread debate after the Black Stars suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat and exited the tournament.
Queiroz, however, stood by his decisions, emphasizing that football is a team game and that each player was utilized at the appropriate time during Ghana’s World Cup campaign.
The coach’s comments come amid growing scrutiny over his tactical approach and squad management following the Black Stars’ early exit from the competition.
