Prophet Isaac Asante, Head Pastor of Rhema Prayer Ministry, has offered advice to wives and potential wives, urging them to prioritise their cleanliness and neatness, as their husbands are keenly observant and drawn to them.
In an interview with Nana Asabea on Plan B FM’s social and lifestyle programme, “Nyansapɔ Fie”, he stated that men, including himself, appreciate the physical appearance of their wives and are influenced by their beauty. Therefore, wives should always strive to be clean and neat.
This advice echoes the theme of spiritual and physical cleanliness found in various religious teachings. In Islam, cleanliness is considered half of faith, and Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stressed the importance of personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness. Similarly, in Christianity, spiritual cleanliness is associated with repentance and turning away from sin. The Bible encourages believers to cleanse themselves from all defilement and live a life that honours God. For example, Isaiah 1:16 urges people to “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil”. While Prophet Asante’s statement is not directly linked to these teachings, it resonates with the idea of maintaining spiritual and physical purity.
“Don’t always be seen in clothes wrapped around your waist; it puts us off, for we love to watch and live a healthy life,” he added.
In a contrasting view, Muhammad Hussain Acquah, a respected educator and religious leader, called on husbands to appreciate and love their wives beyond physical appearance. As the Headteacher of T.I. Ahmadiyya Basic School in Tema and National Preaching Secretary of Ansarullah Ghana, he urged husbands to look beyond physical beauty, saying, “Don’t trade your wife for youth; beauty is fleeting.”
He emphasised the importance of loving and appreciating one’s partner beyond physical appearance and working through the natural changes that occur in relationships.
