Prolonged Computer Use Reduces Blinking, Strain Your Eyes – Optometrist

Prolonged Computer Use Reduces Blinking, Strain Your Eyes – Optometrist
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Dr Adjoa Kwansimah Ampiah, Principal Optometrist from the Tema Urban Hospital has urged individuals to avoid prolonged computer use as it can reduce blinking and strain the eyes.

In an interview with Nana Asabea on Plan B FM’s social and lifestyle show, “Nyansapɔ Fie”, Dr Kwansimah explained that one should blink 15-20 times per minute. However, prolonged computer use, dehydration, and other factors can cause eye strain.

“We do not encourage children aged 0-2 years to use phones. Screen time for children with gadgets should be limited and monitored, including the distance they sit from TV and other screens,” she advised.

Furthermore, she recommended considering the ambience when using phones in the dark to reduce direct light exposure to the eyes.

Dr Kwansimah’s advice comes as a reminder to prioritise eye health.
