Pro-Vice Chancellor of KNUST Ellis Owusu-Dabo sue Otec FM and the Ghanaian observer for false allegations

A legal battle is unfolding as Professor Ellis Owusu-Dabo of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) takes action against OTEC FM and The Ghanaian Observer for publishing allegedly false and defamatory information about him.

The news publications made by these media houses accused the Pro-Vice Chancellor of scheming to avoid the extension the current Vice Chancellor’s tenure in office, leading to his own dream of taking up that position.

Stern letters has been issued to both Otec FM and Ghanaian Observer by the Professor’s legal team, O&A Legal Consult.

Letter issued by O&A Legal Consult to Otec FM touched on many broadcasts where the Pro-Vice Chancellor was accused of undermining the Vice Chancellor’s tenure extension, while the Ghanaian Observer was cited putting similar content on its newspaper frontpage in their June edition.

O&A Legal Consult believes these Allegations made against their client are not only false but also tend to tarnish the Professor’s reputation as a principled and loyal academic.

The letters, signed by lawyer Kwasi Afrifa ESQ with the letter head carrying names such as Kwabena Poku-Mensah ESQ, and Ama Asenso ESQ, demanded immediate retractions and apologies from both OTEC FM and The Ghanaian Observer.

The Pro-Vice Chancellor’s legal team explained that Professor Owusu-Dabo has always maintained a stellar record and a good relationship with the current Vice Chancellor, Professor Rita Dickson, and that these accusations are harmful to his hard-earned career.

The letter to OTEC FM specifically called out journalist John Antwi Boasiako as the key figure behind the defamatory broadcasts, alleging a conspiracy involving Michael Owusu-Afriyie of The Ghanaian Observer.
