President John Dramani Mahama has left Accra for New York to participate in the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
The Assembly is being held under the theme, “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All.”
According to the Presidency, President Mahama is expected to host two high-level side events during his visit, focusing on Africa’s renewal and international action on historical justice.
On Monday, September 21, the President will host a high-level event on the Accra Reset, bringing together world leaders to discuss “Full Circle: Making Global Development Work Again.”
A second side event, scheduled for Wednesday, September 23, will focus on the “Next Steps” on reparatory justice, particularly international cooperation on the return and restitution of cultural properties and heritage.
President Mahama is also scheduled to deliver Ghana’s official statement during the General Debate of the UN General Assembly on Thursday, September 24.
Beyond the main UN programme, the President is expected to hold a series of meetings aimed at strengthening international partnerships, promoting investment in Ghana and engaging with the Ghanaian diaspora.
He will meet with world leaders, the UN Secretary-General and executives of multinational companies.
As part of efforts to promote Ghana as a destination for business and investment, President Mahama will ring the NASDAQ Closing Bell and participate in a US-Ghana Presidential Roundtable organised by the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce.
He is also scheduled to speak at the Council on Foreign Relations and attend the Ocean Panel Leaders’ Meeting.
On Friday, September 25, President Mahama will host a Town Hall meeting with members of the Ghanaian community in New York, where he is expected to share updates on his vision for Ghana’s national development.
The President is accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, other Cabinet Ministers, senior officials from the Presidency and other government officials.
The delegation is expected to return to Ghana after the engagements in New York.
