Bono Upper East and Eastern regions are the latest to record cases of Bird Flu. This brings to 10 out of 16 regions to have been affected with the disease, the already affected regions including Greater Accra, Tema and Ashanti continue to experience new cases.
The minister of food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto announced at a media briefing that the Bird flu situation is under control across the Country.
Napoleon Agyemang Oduro, who is the Vice President of Poultry Farmers Association in an interview with Bohyeba Afriyie on PlanB FM’s Ebanoosen said that it’s quite disheartening to invest and have loose it all to a disease.
“800, 000 birds have been lost to the bird flu disease, this seasons is the most devastating Bird Flu occurrence ever in Ghana”
He also said that per practice the disease may spread faster in this weather condition and so farmers must take extra care.
Mr Napoleon said that all farmers who are members of their Association are Educated and rightly informed because all messages from Government are passed through them down to all farmers and so if you are not a member then you don’t get to enjoy packages from the Government so he urges all farmers to join their non profit Associations so they will all benefit as farmers.
He concluded that per what he is hearing and seeing everything is not under control as the minister says but he also knows it is no one’s fault.
