Black Queens captain Portia Boakye has been nominated for the 2026 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award following her contributions to Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Boakye featured in five matches during the tournament, providing one assist as Ghana reached the quarter-final stage.
She is among two Ghanaian players nominated for individual honours this year, alongside goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan, who has been shortlisted for the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award following her performances at the tournament.
The Black Queens captain faces competition from several established African football stars, including Zambia’s Barbra Banda, South Africa’s Thembi Kgatlana and Cameroon’s Marie Ngah Manga and Monique Ngock.
Other nominees include Morocco’s Hanane Ait El Haj, Algeria’s Marine Dafeur, and Malawi’s Tabitha Chawinga and Temwa Chawinga.
The 2026 CAF Awards ceremony is scheduled for Monday, December 7, 2026, and will recognise outstanding performances across African football during the eligibility period.
Ghana will be hoping its two representatives secure recognition at the continental awards ceremony.
