A tragic incident occurred in Abease, Bono East region, where a policeman accidentally shot and killed his colleague. The incident happened on Sunday, December 15, 2024, around 11:30 am.

The incident occurred during a confrontation between police and mourners at a funeral procession. The mourners were headed to the cemetery when they encountered a police barrier, leading to a confrontation.

The situation escalated when one of the mourners allegedly insulted a policewoman, prompting a call for backup. The reinforcement team clashed with the mourners upon arrival, during which a policeman fired warning shots.

In an attempt by the mourners to disarm him, the gun accidentally went off, shooting his colleague in the abdomen. The officer responsible for the shooting fled the scene after realizing the harm caused.

The injured officer was rushed to a nearby clinic and later transferred to Techiman Hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries. The incident is a tragic reminder of the risks and challenges faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty.
