A thorough traffic management plan has been released by the Ghana Police Service in advance of the two final rallies that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) are holding on Thursday, December 5, 2024.
The University of Ghana Stadium in Legon will host the NPP gathering, while the NDC’s rally will be held at Zurak Park in Madina.
The Police Service, in a statement, said, “Designated routes have been approved for party supporters to access their respective rally venues, and all supporters are required to strictly adhere to these specified paths.”
This, according to the Police, is to avoid tension during this last minute of the whole pre-election process.
“NPP supporters travelling from the Adenta direction are advised to turn left at Ritz Junction and proceed towards the American House, continuing on this route and connecting with Okponglo through to the UG Sports Directorate park. Also, those coming from the Dome direction should turn right at Haatso Junction and follow the route towards the GIMPA direction to access the University of Ghana.
“NDC supporters travelling from Tetteh Quarshie are advised to turn right at Shiashie, along Lagos Avenue, connecting with Trinity Avenue to UPSA, and turn left on the UPSA road to the main Madina-Accra highway and turn right to their rally ground.
“Those coming from the Dome direction should take a left turn at the KFC Junction and head towards the Wisconsin area. In addition, supporters coming from the Adenta direction can use any suitable route to access the rally location,” the statement said.

SECURITY ARRANGEMENTS FOR FINAL POLITICAL RALLIES FOR TOMORROW THURSDAY, 5TH DECEMBER 2024
1. The Ghana Police Service wishes to assure the general public that adequate security measures have been put in place for the final political rallies of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), slated for tomorrow Thursday, 5th December 2024 in Accra.
2. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hold its rally at the UG Sports Directorate park opposite the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will host its rally at Zurack Park at Madina.
3. Although the Police would have preferred the two political parties to have considered relocating their rally venues due to their close proximity along the Accra-Madina stretch, which poses a risk of potential confrontations between their supporters, both parties indicated that such a change would be politically disadvantageous to them.
4. In order to avoid tension during this last minute of the whole pre-election process, the Police have decided to put in extra effort and resources to accommodate their stance. We have accordingly worked with them to come out with the following security arrangements to ensure the peaceful conduct of the rallies:
a. Designated routes have been approved for party supporters to access their respective rally venues, and all supporters are required to strictly adhere to these specified paths.
b. NPP supporters travelling from the Adenta direction are advised to turn left at Ritz Junction and proceed towards the American House, continuing on this route and connecting with Opkonglo through to the UG Sports Directorate park. Also, those coming from the Dome direction should turn right at Haatso Junction and follow the route towards the GIMPA direction to access the University of Ghana.
c. NDC supporters travelling from Tetteh Quarshie are advised to turn right at Shiashie, along Lagos Avenue, connecting with Trinity Avenue to UPSA, and turn left on the UPSA road to the main Madina-Accra highway and turn right to their rally ground. Those coming from the Dome direction should take a left turn at the KFC Junction and head towards the Wisconsin area. In addition, supporters coming from the Adenta direction can use any suitable route to access the rally location.
d. The North Legon and Memuna roads will be blocked to the general public to enable NDC party supporters to have space to undertake their rally.
e. We wish to inform the public that, apart from the North Legon and Memuna roads, which will be closed, all other roads will remain open to normal traffic. However, due to the rallies, there is expected to be heavy traffic congestion. Commuters are therefore advised to consider using alternative routes to avoid delays.
f. Party supporters in groups will not be allowed to pass beyond the approved routes.
g. Groups of supporters on motorbikes will not be allowed within the vicinity of the rally venues to prevent congestion and potential security breaches.
h. Police officers will be stationed strategically along all the routes to assist party supporters to safely get to their respective rally grounds.
5. In the event of any problem or security concern, the public is advised to immediately contact the Police through the Election Emergency Command Centre on the toll-free number 0800311311 for the necessary intervention.
6. We would like to entreat the parties and their supporters to carry into tomorrow’s rally the level of comportment they have exhibited in their campaigns so far to ensure a peaceful and orderly event.
7. Once again, we would like to assure the public that the Police will take all necessary measures to maintain security, law, and order throughout the events.
