Police Commander, 3 other officers injured by rioting students

Four(4) Police Officers including the Navrongo Municipal Police Commander ASP Kingsley Kanda are reportedly receiving treatment at the Wa Memorial Hospital in Navrongo after sustaining injuries in a clash with students of St. Bernadette Technical Institute.

A team of Police officers who were deployed to the school to restore order following a riot by the students resulted in the officers sustaining injuries.
Local media reports said the violence broke out in the school when management stopped the students from holding an inter-ethnic football match. The decision by management provoked the students, leading to altercations and violent protests.

Municipal Chief Executive for Navrongo Municipality Joseph Adongo who confirmed the incident said the disagreements between the school authorities and students degenerated, hence a distress call to the police to foil the situation.

The police team crashed with the rowdy students who succeeded in injuring four officers including the commander.

The school has been temporarily closed down.
