The Ghana Police Service has arrested Sibamay Zakaria, who was captured in a viral video allegedly assaulting a suspect while in police custody.
Zakaria is currently in police custody and is assisting with investigations. He is expected to be put before the court as the Police proceed with the case.
The arrest follows widespread public concern over the video, which showed Zakaria assaulting a detained pastor at a police facility. The incident sparked calls for an investigation into how the civilian gained access to the facility and assaulted a person in custody. (
The Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) has also commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to the Police, anyone found culpable in connection with the incident will be subjected to the appropriate disciplinary processes.
The Police have reiterated that the matter will be handled through the appropriate legal and disciplinary channels.
