Parliament to convene at the Grand Arena on Monday, December 16, 2024

Bagbin Leaves Parliament Following Delays In Commencing Sitting

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has announced that the upcoming parliamentary session will take place at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre on Monday, December 16, 2024.

In a statement issued today, following a notice dated December 2, 2024, which summoned Parliament, Speaker Bagbin said the Grand Arena, Accra International Conference Centre will be the place of sitting.

Speaker Bagbin’s selection of this venue comes after he had previously declined a request by the Majority Leader to recall Parliament for urgent business just before the December 7 elections, citing the potential disruption to election campaigns.

“Bearing in mind the provisions of Article 296 (a) and (b) of the Constitution and the closeness of the proposed dates to the general election, I am of the considered opinion that it would not be in the national interest to interrupt the campaigns of members and parties by a recall to plenary sitting of Parliament,” the Speaker said.
