Over 1,000 Road Accidents Recorded In Greater Accra In First Quarter Of 2025

Over 1,000 Road Accidents Recorded In Greater Accra In First Quarter Of 2025
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A staggering 1,170 reported cases of road accidents were recorded in the Greater Accra Region in the first quarter of 2025, with pedestrians emerging as the most vulnerable road users.

According to Tony Dickson, Road Crash and Injury Prevention Analyst, the statistics are alarming, with 219 pedestrians knocked down and 46 losing their lives between January and March 2025.

Dickson made this known whilst speaking on Plan B FM’s Nkɔsoɔnsɛm show hosted by Obidehyeɛ Kofi Sekyi. He attributed the global initiative on road safety to the late Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary-General, who introduced the UN Global Road Safety Week Celebration.

“Pedestrians are the most vulnerable road users in Ghana, with nothing to protect them,” Dickson noted, highlighting the need for increased measures to safeguard pedestrians.

The analyst’s comments underscore the urgent need for stakeholders to address the rising cases of road accidents in the region.
