The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has restored the destooled Queen of Mpasaaso No2 to her position.

She was deposed many years ago by the now-destooled chief of Mpasaaso No2.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Monday, March 10, 2025, destooled Nana Amofa Twumasi II, the chief of Mpasaaso No. 2 in the Ashanti region due to a number of accusations, including his involvement in illegal mining operations.

Further accusations are the lack of supervision and accountability to his community and traditional authorities, as well as his dubious royal ancestry.

The chief was pronounced guilty after addressing the accusations before the Asanteman Kumasi Traditional Council at the Manhyia Palace.

His role in illegal mining operations in the Mpasaaso community, which resulted in the damage of water sources, was the main cause of his destoolment.

The Asantehene underlined that the chief’s acts were against customs and that it is the duty of traditional leaders to enforce the law and safeguard the land.

Due to their involvement in illegal mining operations, several chiefs have recently been detooled by the Manhyia Palace.
