Former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has revealed that his time in charge of Ghana’s senior national team was marked by persistent tension with officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), saying he constantly felt his position was under threat.
Speaking on the German podcast 11Freunde, Addo disclosed that his relationship with the GFA leadership, including the federation president and members of the Executive Council, was often strained throughout his two-year spell as Black Stars coach.
“I was in Ghana for two years as coach. There was, of course, a lot of back-and-forth between me and our federation president, and the board too. It just felt like I could’ve been kicked out after just one month,” Addo said.
The former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach suggested the uncertainty surrounding his role made the job particularly challenging, as he never felt secure despite leading the national team.
Addo, who parted ways with the Black Stars following Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, also revealed that he remains eager to return to coaching.
He said he is open to working either as a head coach or an assistant coach should the right opportunity arise.
“I’m ready to work again, whether as a head coach or an assistant coach, if the right offer comes,” he said.
Otto Addo first took charge of the Black Stars in 2022 before returning for a second stint, overseeing Ghana at the 2022 and 2026 FIFA World Cups.
