One of the triplets abandoned by father at Eastern Regional Hospital dies

One of the triplets delivered by a 25-year-old mother, Gloria Teye, who were abandoned by their father at the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua has died.

Hospital sources say financial difficulties have made it challenging for the mother to buy the prescription drugs she needs in time to take care of her babies.

Gloria gave birth to the triplets at home at first, then to a nearby hospital, and then transferred to the Eastern Regional Hospital.

The triplets are being cared for in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and by Kangaroo Mother Care services, while their mother is still hospitalized.

The father of the newborns, 36-year-old Samuel Boateng, a barber by profession at Nkurakan near Koforidua, abandoned the children after news got to him that his wife, with whom he already has four children, including a set of twins, had delivered triplets, according to an earlier report by starrfm.com.gh.

“My husband left the hospital after the nurse informed him that I had given birth to triplets. We tried to call him several times, but he did not answer our calls,” Gloria said in a state of sadness.

She also stated that her husband had previously expressed concerns about the financial burden of raising multiple children due to struggles he faces in running his barbershop, which is reportedly on the brink of collapse due to high electricity tariffs and low patronage.

“The last time I gave birth to twins, and now triplets. I think that’s why he is unhappy because he told me during my pregnancy that things were hard. Even the four children we already have are a burden to him. My husband runs a barbershop in Nkurakan, but the shop is near collapsing due to high electricity tariffs and low patronage,” she added.

She appealed to the public for financial assistance to pay her hospital bills.

“We need financial support from everyone. at least to pay my hospital bills for now. We beg Ghanaians to help us,” she pleaded
