Obstinate behaviour can break intimacy in marriage — Rev. Benjamin Boateng

Obstinate behavior can break intimacy in marriage — Rev. Benjamin Boateng

Obstinate behaviour can damage intimacy in marriage, create emotional distance between couples and eventually affect friendships, Reverend Benjamin Boateng has warned.

Speaking on Nyansapo Fie on Plan B FM, hosted by Akosua Gyamfua, Rev. Benjamin Boateng said everyone needs advice, particularly in marriage, courtship and friendship, and warned that consistently refusing to listen to reasonable advice can cause people to distance themselves from an obstinate person.

He explained that in marriage, obstinate behaviour can undermine intimacy when couples insist on doing things their own way without considering their partner’s views.

According to him, such behaviour can create persistent conflict, disrupt the structure of the marriage and make the home unhappy.

He noted that when couples become overly obstinate, communication may gradually deteriorate to the point where they only speak to each other when something is needed for the household.

Rev. Benjamin Boateng further explained that obstinate behaviour can also negatively affect friendships, as people may eventually withdraw from someone who consistently refuses to listen to advice or consider the concerns of others.

He said such withdrawal can leave the obstinate person isolated and lonely, stressing that refusing to take advice can eventually drive people out of one’s life.

He therefore encouraged individuals to develop a willingness to listen, consider advice and appreciate the perspectives of others.

Rev. Benjamin Boateng emphasised that good advice, effective communication and openness are essential in preventing obstinate behaviour from damaging marriages, friendships and other important relationships.
