NPP’s Jude Naab defends party reorganization, questions NDC’s governance and 24-hour economy

NPP’s Jude Naab defends party reorganization, questions NDC’s governance and 24-hour economy

A New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Communication Officer, Mr. Jude Naab, has defended the party’s approach to its ongoing reorganization, describing it as strategic and necessary to preserve unity.

Speaking on Plan B FM’s EBAANOSEN with host Ohene Kennah, Mr. Naab explained that the NPP deliberately began its reorganization with the presidential election to ensure stability and prevent unnecessary internal disputes. He noted that the process officially commences after the tenure of existing delegates expires, adding that although some members initially opposed the approach, it has since proven to be the right decision.

Mr. Naab also accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of misrepresenting the exchange rate inherited from the previous administration. He maintained that official Bank of Ghana records show the cedi was trading at approximately GH¢14 to the US dollar in early January 2025, dismissing claims that the exchange rate had reached GH¢16 or GH¢17 before the change in government.

Turning to the NDC’s flagship 24-hour economy policy, Mr. Naab questioned its implementation, arguing that the party campaigned on creating a system where a single job would be operated across three shifts but has yet to demonstrate meaningful results. He criticized the establishment of the 24-hour economy secretariat, insisting that Ghanaians are more interested in seeing sustainable job creation than administrative structures.

He further claimed that frustration over employment opportunities is growing within the NDC’s own support base. Citing Global InfoAnalytics, Mr. Naab alleged that about 78% of NDC supporters and delegates are dissatisfied with the government’s job creation efforts, arguing that the administration has failed to fulfil one of its key campaign promises.

Concluding his remarks, Mr. Naab defended the NPP’s economic record, asserting that the economy was on a growth trajectory when the party left office. He highlighted the significant increase in Ghana’s gold reserves during the NPP administration, arguing that the policy strengthened the country’s economic fundamentals and contributed to the stability of the cedi.
