A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Thomas Ayertey, has called for a comprehensive overhaul of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), saying the party needs significant reforms to rebuild its structures and regain public confidence.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s EBAANOSEN, hosted by Ohene Kinnah, Mr Ayertey said the NPP must critically review aspects of its constitution and reconsider some of its internal decisions, particularly those relating to the selection and responsibilities of party executives.
According to him, some positions within the party require energetic, competent and committed individuals who can effectively mobilise the youth and strengthen the NPP at the grassroots.
He urged the party to take a critical look at its organisational structures and introduce changes where necessary to improve its effectiveness and reconnect with its base.
Thomas Ayertey also criticised what he described as inappropriate comments and attitudes within Ghana’s political space, stressing that party leaders and representatives must be mindful of their choice of words when discussing political opponents and national issues.
He argued that political discourse should be guided by responsibility and respect, particularly from individuals occupying leadership positions within political parties.
Mr Ayertey said the challenges confronting the NPP should provide an opportunity for the party to reflect on its past decisions, reorganise its structures and introduce meaningful reforms.
He maintained that a well-planned overhaul of the party’s organisational structures and leadership could help the NPP rebuild its strength, regain public confidence and position itself for a stronger political future.
