Members of Parliament (MPs) from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have sent a strong warning to the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over allegations of violent acts committed by party supporters.
Deputy Majority Leader Patricia Appiagyei decried what she termed as organized attacks on NPP members and supporters after the 2024 general election. She accused Kofi Totobi Quakyi and Lt. Col. Larry Gbevlo Lartey of masterminding the violence and raised alarm about possible future disruptions following President-Elect John Dramani Mahama’s inauguration.
Although NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia acknowledged defeat within 14 hours of the election results being published, Appiagyei stated that violence against NPP supporters continues. She emphasized the urgency of immediate action by both the President-Elect and security authorities to bring those involved accountable. “The violence has not ceased, and it is critical for the authorities to act decisively and bring the culprits to justice,” she told me.
Majority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh also spoke out, saying that if the alleged attacks continue, the NPP will pursue all legal measures to protect its members. He reiterated that the party was determined to defending its followers using all legal methods.
The MPs urged the President-Elect to take steps to ensure peace and stability throughout the transition phase, encouraging security agencies to respond quickly to handle the situation and prevent future disturbance.
