The Tema West Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwasi Poku, has called for an amendment of the party’s constitution, arguing that the current delegate system should be scrapped.
Speaking to Ohene Kinnah on Plan B FM’s Ebanosen programme, Chairman Poku said it is time for changes in the way the party conducts its internal elections. He questioned why decisions made by delegates should determine the direction of the entire party.
According to him, the NPP has about 600,000 members, while delegates number approximately 200,000, and therefore should not be the only ones to decide on key matters for the party.
He proposed that the entire party membership should be given the opportunity to vote in the selection of a flagbearer to lead the party.
