The Athletics Championships is scheduled to run from May 12 to May 17 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium and on the opening day of the competition, Amoah was one of a handful of Ghanaian athletes who secured qualification from their respective heat to the next round.

Ghana’s 100 Metre record holder Abdul-Rasheed Saminu finished second in his heat but was unbothered about it after qualifying to the next round.(Click highlighted text to watch video)

Speaking to reporters after finishing second in his heat behind Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme, Paul Amoah cited his bad start as the reason.

“We are here to give our best and we hope that our best will be good enough to get some medals. I didn’t get the start that I wanted but I will definitely try to do better in the semifinals” Amoah said.
