Not All Social Intervention Programs Will Be Scrapped By IMF – Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu

MMDCEs Will Soon Borrow Money For Development – Majority Leader Hints

Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has debunked claims that Government’s social intervention programs will be cancelled by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

There were reports suggesting that some social intervention programmes by the Government of Ghana risk being cancelled as the country seeks a bailout from the IMF.

The West African country is in economic distress and blames it on COVID-19 and the Russia and Ukraine war.

Among the programmes mentioned includes the Nation Builders Corps and Free SHS.

But speaking to Accra-based OKAY FM, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu indicated that these are constitutionally sanctioned social intervention programmes and the IMF cannot cancel them.

“These are things very dear to the Government and the constitution allows for social intervention programmes so there is no way they will say what your constitution has stipulated you do should be cancelled. It is non-negotiable but they are discussing these things NABCO, and other programs run by the YEA.

They will discuss it because some of them are survival programmes which will affect lives adversely if scrapped. They are still in the negotiations so they have all the details,” he told OKAY FM.
