Anthony Sam-Anoom, Assemblyman for Republic Electoral Area and Communication Team Member for the NDC in the Tema Central Constituency, has called for the implementation of price controls to curb rising inflation, despite the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s Nkɔsoɔnsɛm show hosted by Obidehyeɛ Kofi Sekyi, Sam-Anoom emphasised that price controls are necessary to protect consumers from the adverse effects of inflation. He further noted that as the Cedi strengthens against the dollar, traders should reduce prices to avoid exploiting consumers who patronise their goods.
“I therefore commend the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) for calling for a reduction in the prices of goods and services,” Sam-Anoom said. “I support the call for price control, as this would be regularised by law, and anyone who fails to comply would be reprimanded. Price control would also help regulate the automatic adjustment formula.”
