The National Communications Authority (NCA) has received four applications for spectrum licences in the 700MHz, 2.3GHz and 3GHz mid-bands, following the close of the application window on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
The spectrum licences are intended to support the provision of mobile broadband services, including 5G, as Ghana continues to expand access to next-generation mobile connectivity.
In a statement, the NCA said the deadline for applications ended at 5:00 p.m. on August 27, after which it proceeded with the formal opening of Envelope A in accordance with the published selection and award procedure.
However, the Authority stressed that the opening of Envelope A is only an administrative step in the licensing process.
It does not amount to an assessment or determination of the eligibility, compliance or completeness of any of the four applications.
The NCA said Envelope B, which contains the applicants’ Best Price Offers, remains sealed.
The licensing process follows the NCA’s earlier decision to open Ghana’s 5G spectrum market to competitive applications. The regulator had initially set August 6 as the deadline but extended it to August 27 to give prospective applicants additional time to complete their submissions.
The NCA says further updates on the licensing process will be communicated through its official channels.
