The National Digital Terrestrial Television site at Ho in the Volta region today, March 6, 2023 caught fire. The facility offers digital TV reception in the Ho area.

The fire which started around 9am destroyed portions of the digital terrestrial television (DTT) facility located within Volta Star Radio.

According to an eyewitness who is also the Regional Technical Head for GBC, Benard Torwoe, the fire began at about 9 in the morning after they had changed battery packs at the DTT facility located within the premises Volta Star last night.

He noted that he tried fighting the fire with available fire extinguishers but upon realising its intensity a call was placed through to the fire service department.

A swift response from the Municipal Fire Service helped save the situation as it took them less than 3 minutes to reach the site.

The Deputy Director of Operations at the Ghana National Fire Service D.O 1 Joseph Kofi Forson said although the exact cause of the incident is not known preliminary reports suggest that a lack of adequate storage facilities for the battery packs may have contributed to the outbreak.

As at the time of filing this story officers from the headquarters of K-NET had arrived and restored TV reception within the ho Municipality.

Earlier, a power surge within the Adaklu enclave briefly interrupted activities at the youth resource center but did not affect GBC’s live transmission of the event.
