A conspiracy to unseat some strongly connected Parliamentarians in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been uncovered. It is alleged that the mastermind to this plot is a cabinet minister, and of Asante descent.
It is said that he is seeking to be rewarded the Vice-Presidential candidate position should Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia (Vice President) be elected as the flagbearer of the party in the coming congress. However five high profiled and vociferous parliamentarians stand his way and they are; the Education Minister, Dr Yaw Adutwum; the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu; Bryan Acheampong (MP- Abetifi), Eugene Boakye Antwi (MP- Subin), and Nana Dokua Asiamah-Adjei (Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry).
The devious plan allegedly orchestrated by the Minister is to sponsor some persons to contest the parliamentary primaries in the Constituencies of the named parliamentarians. This, he has done by influencing the appointment of his cronies into state companies under his ministry so they could amass wealth for the coming election.
All of his targets are known to have had some conflicts with him in the past, and he thus fear they could strongly protest his appointment as Veep should Dr Bawumia be elected as Presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party. It’s is rumoured that whatever be the outcome of the flagbearer-ship contest, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu or Dr Adutwum are preferred as Vice Presidential Candidates for the 2024 election, so that the Ashanti factor at the Presidency could be restored.
But these machinations could breed chaos in the NPP even before the party executive election is held. Already, the Minister has started working with his lover boy, Sammy Awuku to unseat Nana Dokua Asiamah-Adjei. Another person [who was recently awarded a juicy appointment at Ghana Gas] has been tasked to frustrate the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu.
Similarly, Bryan Acheampong and Boakye Antwi who are fierce political actors in the NPP are being ‘axe’ at the heels. It is said that these personalities are fully aware of the machinations and are firing back at the Minister’s threat.
In Bryan Acheampong’s case, the Minister is particularly concerned about the influence the latter has due to the sponsorship/support offered to the party. Hon. Bryan Acheampong is a known political strategist, and as such his presence poses a major threat to the ambitions of this unnamed Minister.
The Subin legislators [Boakye Antwi], a highly principled and incorruptible politician, has had grudges with the minister in the past, and this had made him a known ‘disruptive force’ to his quest.
