The Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate has condemned the assault of a midwife at the Tema Community 22 Polyclinic by a patient’s family member.
According to a press release issued on June 5, the incident occurred on Tuesday, June 2, while the health worker was enforcing the facility’s visiting hours policy. The Directorate described the attack as unprovoked and expressed its full support for the affected staff member and healthcare workers across its facilities.
The statement noted that the swift intervention of the Ghana Police Service helped restore calm at the facility and led to the arrest of the suspect.
The accused person is expected to be arraigned before court on Monday, June 8. The Health Directorate stressed that violence against health workers will not be tolerated.
The Directorate further advised members of the public to channel complaints and grievances through the Client Service Desk available in all Ghana Health Service facilities, emphasizing that assault is not an acceptable means of seeking redress.
The Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate reaffirmed its commitment to providing quality healthcare services and called on the public to treat health workers with respect while using the appropriate channels to address concerns.
