Dr. Florence Koryo Akumeah, a medical officer with the National Cardiothoracic center has advised Ghanaians to desist from the use of sex enhancement drugs.
According to Dr. Koryo, sex enhancement products contain traces of an ingredient used in drugs that can cause dangerous health complications.
“Sex enhancing drugs contain hidden ingredients that could result in serious side effects, especially if they interact with other medications”, she said.
Speaking at the 2021 World Heart Day at the Tema Community Center, organized by Cocoa Processing Company (CPC), she indicated that, usage of this drugs can lead to stroke, heart attack and other health complication.
“They claim to increase blood flow to the penis in order to increase the duration of an erection, however they have forgotten that the increase blood flow from the heart to the male organ is unhealthy and can lead to health complication”, she explained further.
In a speech read on his behalf, the Managing Director (MD), of CPC, Nana Agyenim Boateng I noted that the objective of the celebration among others is to use the day as a platform to create awareness that Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in the world.
According to him it is on record that CVD, including heart disease and stroke claims about 18.6 million lives each year.
“The day is therefore to be used to mobilize people to take action in order to prevent and control CVD,” he mentioned.
He pointed out that, as producers of the world’s premium and high quality Goldentree cocoa and chocolate confectionery products, CPC carry a great responsibility of supporting this important campaign by providing health benefits found in consuming cocoa products which are packed in various forms under the Goldentree brand.
He continued that this is important because it is advised strongly that one of the ways of preventing heart diseases is through eating healthy diet.
“Cocoa Processing Company is well positioned to do that in the products we offer to our consumers all in a bid to contribute to reducing global mortality from non-communicable disease by 25% by the year 2025 as set by the World Health Organization,” the MD’s speech read.
World Heart Day is observed and celebrated annually on September 29, with the aim of increasing awareness of cardiovascular diseases and how to control them to negate their global impact.
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the most common cause of death globally with an estimated 17 million people die from CVD every year.
The international holiday was established by the World Heart Federation in collaboration with the World Health Organization.
