The Tema Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has received a donation of assorted items from the Melcom Group to improve the welfare and working conditions of firefighters.
The items, presented at a ceremony held at the headquarters of the Tema Regional Fire Service Command, include 30 mattresses, 15 bunk beds, a 55-inch LED television, a refrigerator and an air conditioner.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Chief Fire Officer, Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, the Tema Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Patrick N. Sallah, said the donation followed a request the command made to Melcom about three months ago to support the welfare of personnel.
He expressed appreciation to the Melcom Group for responding to the request, saying the items would help create a more comfortable environment for firefighters at the command.
According to ACFO II Sallah, representatives of Melcom visited the facility, observed the conditions under which firefighters were working and decided to support the command.
He used the occasion to appeal to other companies and industries in the Tema area to emulate Melcom by supporting the Ghana National Fire Service.
ACFO II Sallah thanked Melcom for what he described as a significant gesture towards improving the welfare of firefighters in the Tema Region.
Speaking on behalf of Melcom, the Group General Manager, Francis Sam, said the company recognised the important role played by the Ghana National Fire Service and the need to support the service.
He said the GNFS had been a longstanding partner of Melcom and had consistently provided support to the company over the years.
Mr Sam also recalled the recent fire incident at one of Melcom’s warehouses, noting that the Fire Service responded promptly and assisted the company during the incident.
He expressed gratitude to firefighters for their work and assured the service of Melcom’s continued support.
The donation forms part of Melcom’s efforts to support institutions and organisations that contribute to the safety and wellbeing of communities.
