President John Dramani Mahama has announced a total of GH¢684,000 in financial support for three Ghanaian clubs representing the country in continental and regional competitions.
The support, drawn from the Sports Development Fund, is aimed at easing the financial burden on the clubs as they prepare to compete beyond the domestic league.
Ghana Premier League champions Medeama Sporting Club will receive the largest share of GH¢342,000, equivalent to US$30,000.
Nations Football Club will receive GH¢228,000, equivalent to US$20,000, while WAFU B representatives Ampem Darkoa Ladies will receive GH¢114,000, equivalent to US$10,000.
The announcement was made when representatives of the three clubs paid a courtesy call on President Mahama.
President Mahama, while presenting the cheques, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting Ghanaian clubs competing on the international stage and expressed hope that the financial assistance would contribute to successful campaigns.
He said the government considered the support necessary as the clubs carry Ghana’s name beyond the domestic league.
President Mahama also acknowledged the impressive performance of the women’s side, noting that Ampem Darkoa Ladies deserved particular recognition for their efforts.
The latest intervention brings the government’s direct financial support to the three clubs to GH¢684,000, as they seek to make an impact in their respective regional and continental competitions.
