A matron at St. Mary’s Vocational Institute in Donkorkrom, in the Afram Plains North District, has been arrested for allegedly inflicting severe head injuries on her 12-year-old son.

The suspect, identified as Madam Mavis Vinyo, is accused of attacking the boy with a cutlass following a disagreement. According to reports, the child picked up his mother’s mobile phone to play music while she was cooking. This reportedly angered Madam Vinyo, who allegedly beat the boy and later used the cutlass she was cooking with to strike his head.

The injured child was rushed to the Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital by a security officer on duty, where he is currently receiving treatment.

The incident was subsequently reported to the police, leading to the arrest of Madam Vinyo. She is expected to be arraigned before court to face charges.

Speaking to the media, a Social Welfare officer described the act as “diabolical” and said the boy sustained serious head injuries. He strongly condemned the incident and cautioned parents and guardians against resorting to violence in disciplining children, urging the public to protect the rights and safety of minors at all times.
