President John Dramani Mahama has urged members of the clergy to openly voice their concerns if they perceive any shortcomings in his administration.
Speaking to the Volta Region Christian Ecumenical Council of Churches during their courtesy call at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, the president assured them that his government welcomes constructive criticism and will not retaliate against dissenting views.
“I urge you to raise your voices and draw our attention when things are not going well,” Mahama stated. “The government I lead is not intolerant. If people speak and criticize us, we will not harass them or resort to intimidation. The church, as well as the media, should feel free to express their views—we see it as a positive tool for improvement.”
The president emphasized that the clergy serves as the “conscience of the nation” and plays a crucial role in promoting accountability and progress.
