Pastor Sidio Gido of African Redemption Mission has cautioned workers against careless communication in the workplace, warning that loose talk can deepen conflicts, damage credibility and create mistrust among colleagues.
Speaking on managing a loose talker at the workplace on Nyansapo Fie, Plan B FM’s family, relationship and lifestyle programme hosted by Akosua Gyamfua, Pastor Gido described a loose talker as someone who speaks carelessly without considering the circumstances, consequences or benefit of what they are sharing with others.
He explained that some people engage in loose talk intentionally, knowing the consequences of their words and acting based on personal motives, while others do so unintentionally. He identified gossip for selfish gains, spreading rumours, following trends, personal character and peer pressure as some of the factors associated with loose talk.
Pastor Gido noted that loose talk can deepen conflicts, lower moral standards, damage credibility and lead to a lack of trust. He stressed that there is power in the tongue and encouraged people to learn how to communicate responsibly, examine their own behaviour and be careful about peer pressure. He added that not everyone who speaks openly about issues others are unwilling to address should be considered a loose talker, as some may simply be outspoken.
On how employers can manage loose talkers among employees, he advised that information shared with such individuals should be restricted and limited. He also recommended monitoring their conduct and communication, while emphasising that being wise does not automatically make someone a loose talker. He further called for people to understand the laws guiding freedom of speech and exercising caution in how they express themselves.
