The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has commenced payments to eligible beneficiary households under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme.
According to the Ministry, payments began on Monday, September 14, 2026, and will be made in phases across the country.
The LEAP programme is the government’s flagship cash transfer intervention for extremely poor and vulnerable households, providing regular financial support to help beneficiaries meet basic needs, improve food security and access to health and education, and strengthen household resilience.
The commencement of the latest payment follows a comprehensive reassessment of existing LEAP beneficiary households as part of efforts to improve the targeting, effectiveness, transparency and fairness of the programme.
The Ministry explained that household circumstances change over time, with some existing beneficiaries experiencing improved conditions and potentially transitioning out of the programme, while other extremely poor and vulnerable households that were previously not covered may now qualify for support.
Following the reassessment, the government has begun enrolling eligible households with the aim of achieving a national LEAP caseload of 450,000 beneficiary households.
The Ministry has urged successfully enrolled beneficiaries to remain patient, stressing that payments are being made in phases and may take time to reach all households and communities.
It said failure to receive payment at the beginning of the exercise does not necessarily mean a beneficiary has been removed from the programme.
Duly enrolled beneficiaries will receive payments through authorised LEAP payment arrangements and are advised to wait for official notifications and guidance from the LEAP Management Secretariat, District Social Welfare Offices and authorised community-level officers.
The Ministry has also cautioned beneficiaries that no fee, commission or facilitation charge is required for LEAP enrolment or payment. Any person demanding money or other consideration in connection with the exercise should be reported through the established grievance channels.
Beneficiaries with concerns about reassessment outcomes, enrolment or payments may first contact their Community Focal Person or District Social Welfare Office.
For enquiries and grievances, the Ministry has provided the toll-free numbers 0800 800 800 and 0800 900 900, while the LEAP Management Secretariat can also be reached on 0303 969 399.
The Ministry has called on Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, Members of Parliament, traditional and community leaders, and other stakeholders to support the process and help ensure that eligible poor and vulnerable households receive the assistance intended for them.
The Ministry said the commencement of payments marks an important stage in the ongoing effort to reset and strengthen LEAP, making the programme more targeted, transparent, accountable and responsive to Ghana’s poorest and most vulnerable households.
