Security consultant, Professor Kwesi Aning has revealed that the past eight years under the Akufo-Addo administration was tough for him, describing it as “hell”.
He said the period was riddled with threats by some actors to intimidate him and suppress his work as a professional.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, the academic stated that he was had no particular expectation of the new administration. He said he looked forward to returning to an era where he could peacefully work with no threats against him.
“My expectation is to be able to speak the way I’ve always spoken, but I’ve always said this. Earlier on, I could speak and write, and I went to bed in peace. You know, nobody threatened to cut my salary, nobody threatened to call my former bosses to dismiss me.
“You know, the last eight years have been hell for me, just for doing what I’ve been trained with the Ghanaian taxpayers’ money to do. So my expectations are very simple. Give me the space to do my work, to help you, (1:28) and to help the people of Ghana. I mean, it’s very straightforward,” he averred.
It is not the first time the security analyst has spoken publicly about threats made to him.
In 2018, he disclosed on Starr FM that he had received messages threatening him on account of his media commentary on matters relating to security.
Speaking on the matter at the time, he said that some high placed officials had grown frustrated that he was being referred to as “security expert” by the press. The professor urged the media to describe him a “security analyst” in order that he did not provoke against him.
