Kwakye Ofosu Sets Records Straight on Claims Mahama Was Stranded In Dubai [Listen]

Ghana Airport Company to bear cost of Hajj Village project, not taxpayer – Felix Kwakye Ofosu

Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has debunked reports suggesting that President John Dramani Mahama was left stranded in Dubai for 22 hours during his official trip to Japan.

Speaking on Asempa FM he MP for Abura Asebu Kwamankese described the claims as false and politically motivated.

According to him, the President’s stay in Dubai was only a routine layover, which lasted about 10 to 12 hours, and not the 22 hours being circulated.

“When you take a transit aircraft from your origin, it takes you back to its base, and in this case, Emirates is Dubai. At Emirates, there is a lounge where top officials and diplomats relax while awaiting connecting flights. Sometimes embassy officials also make arrangements for comfort,” he explained.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu further clarified that President Mahama could have opted for the same lavish arrangements reportedly used by his predecessor, Akufo-Addo, costing $17,000 per hour, but instead chose a more modest option since adequate facilities were already available.

He stressed that the President’s travel plans are transparent and verifiable, accusing the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of peddling falsehoods to score political points.

Sharing his own experience, the Minister noted that he departed Accra on Friday, August 15, 2025, and also transited through Dubai before proceeding to Japan.

Mr. Ofosu urged the public to disregard what he called a deliberate attempt to misinform Ghanaians and tarnish the image of the President.
