Koforidua Technical University (KTU) has taken disciplinary action by rusticating students involved in examination malpractices as part of its commitment to maintaining academic integrity.
The Vice-Chancellor of KTU, Professor John Owusu, reaffirmed the institution’s zero-tolerance stance on examination malpractices during its 21st Congregation Ceremony held on campus in Koforidua in the Eastern Region.
“Recently, the University has had to rusticate some students for complicity in examination malpractices,” he revealed.
“As parents first and administrators and teachers second, such decisions are not easy to make. However, we need to build a society where honest labor is rewarded and not cheating and deceit. This country is going nowhere if we do not take steps to combat indiscipline, particularly among our youth. The message is now clear; Koforidua Technical University has zero tolerance for Examination Malpractices.”
Since its establishment in 1997 with an initial enrollment of 47 Higher National Diploma (HND) students, KTU has grown to a current student population of 9,949, offering programs across five faculties and in both HND and Bachelor’s degrees. The university is also advancing its academic profile, with 14 master’s degree programs in various stages of accreditation.
KTU has produced numerous engineering professionals for local and international industries, positioning itself as a critical player in Ghana’s technical education sector.
During the ceremony, a total of 1,332 HND and Bachelor students graduated in their specialized fields under the theme “The Future of Science and Technology: The Role of Stakeholders.
Prof. Owusu used the occasion to advise graduands against arrogance and indiscipline as they transition to the workforce. “Having attained an important height in your educational journey, you must remain humble and disciplined in your workplaces,” he cautioned.
The Vice-Chancellor also acknowledged government support, including a GH₵950,000 allocation for academic infrastructure, faculty development, and research.
The Chancellor of KTU, Dr. Kwesi Eduafo Yankey, reassured parents and guardians of the university’s dedication to providing students with world-class education to equip them for 21st-century challenges. He urged the graduands to uphold the values of innovation, integrity, and impact that underpin the university’s mission.
