The community of Yaw Kyeremakrom a suburb of the New Juaben South Municipality, Eastern Region, has taken violent action against illicit drug dealers plaguing the community.

Reports reveal that residents have been enduring incessant attacks and robberies orchestrated by hoodlums, prompting a collective response to reclaim their community’s peace and security.

Led by the assembly member, locals initiated a proactive campaign to purge the area of criminal elements, targeting known hideouts and setting them ablaze while clearing out surrounding vegetation.

Interviews with victims of these criminal activities, including Eric Kobby and Frank Asare, underscored the profound impact on the community, citing impassable roads and widespread fear among residents.

Urging government intervention, they highlighted the urgent need to curtail lawlessness and safeguard their livelihoods.

Expressing concern over the potential influence on impressionable youth, assembly member Umar Issaka emphasized the importance of addressing the root causes of criminality and preventing the normalization of such behavior among younger generations.

Issaka called upon security agencies to intensify efforts in quelling the menace before it further destabilizes the community.

The local police have commended the community’s proactive stance and pledged active collaboration to ensure the protection of lives and properties in the area.
