Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has thrown his support behind reports that Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz is set to receive a two-year contract extension following Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Portuguese tactician, who was appointed on a short-term four-month contract in April, led Ghana to the Round of 32—ending the country’s 16-year wait for a place in the World Cup knockout stage.
Speaking in an interview with 3FM, Kofi Adams described a two-year extension as the right decision, stressing that it would provide the national team with much-needed stability ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
“It’s appropriate if we have to give him a new contract. I would also join those calling for a two-year deal so it takes him through to the 2027 AFCON. That way, there will be stability, and he can focus fully on preparing the team,” the Minister said.
The comments come amid widespread reports that the Ghana Football Association has decided to retain Queiroz beyond his initial short-term agreement after his encouraging start with the Black Stars.
Ghana will begin its qualification campaign for the 2027 AFCON on September 23 with a crucial fixture against Côte d’Ivoire, and the Minister believes continuity on the technical bench will be key to the team’s ambitions.
