A third-year student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has tragically lost her life in a horrific accident in Kumasi.

The deceased student, identified as Afia Dedaa Osae-Atuah, a geography student, was tragically hit and killed by a speeding commercial vehicle that veered off the road and crashed into her at the bus stop where she was waiting to board a car on Monday, December 9, 2024.

According to reports, Osae-Atuah was on her way to have her faulty laptop repaired when the incident occurred, resulting in her death.

Another victim, who was also waiting at the bus stop, was struck by the vehicle, and his condition is yet to be determined.

The incident was first reported by the X account Voice of KNUST, a student news portal. CCTV footage showed that the deceased individuals tried to avoid the speeding car upon sensing the danger, but unfortunately, they were both hit.

It is, however, still unconfirmed whether there were additional casualties as the commercial vehicle was occupied by passengers at the time of the incident.

The accident has raised concerns among KNUST students about the poor condition of commercial vehicles used by drivers and their reckless driving practices.

Meanwhile, some Ghanaians have expressed their condolences to the deceased’s family, with messages of sympathy flooding social media.
