The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has postponed the reopening of the 2026/2027 academic year indefinitely due to an ongoing strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).

In a statement dated Friday, October 9, 2026, the university’s management announced that the reopening, originally scheduled for October 13, 2026, had been postponed because of the strike’s impact on the institution’s operations and administration.

The notice, signed by Deputy Registrar of the University Relations Office, Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe, on behalf of the Registrar, advised students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders to take note of the development.

Management explained that the decision had become necessary because the ongoing industrial action was affecting the university’s effective operations and administration.

The university said it would communicate a revised reopening date in due course.

It also expressed regret over the inconvenience the postponement might cause and thanked students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation.

The indefinite postponement means students will have to await further communication from the university on when academic activities for the 2026/2027 academic year will officially commence.
