Ken Ofori Atta Has No Credibility For IMF Program, He’s Lost Trust And Must Resign – NPP MP

Ken Ofori Atta Has No Credibility For IMF Program, He’s Lost Trust And Must Resign – NPP MP

The NPP Member of Parliament for the Mpraeso constituency in the Eastern region Davis Opoku Ansah says Ghana’s Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta does not have the credibility to lead Ghana into an IMF debt restructuring program.

Again, he claims the Finance Minister has lost the trust of many Members of Parliament and Ghanaians for the poor performance of the economy and hence must resign.

The lawmaker said the resignation of the Finance Minister alone can help stabilise the local currency which is depreciating at the fastest rate.

“Kwasi Kwarteng (former UK finance Minister ) never wanted to leave his post. His mere resignation stopped the slide of the pound. The same is needed in Ghana to stem the hedging”

“Ken has spoken against credit rating agencies and the IMF. His continuous presence is delaying the program. He doesn’t have the credibility to lead a debt restructuring program, hence his delegation of responsibility to a 5-member committee.

He has lost the trust of many, including Members of Parliament and the whole country. A fresh face will bring the 3 C’s. Competence, confidence and credibility. He needs to help the President. He must resign now” Davis Opoku Ansah posted on Facebook all the way from Ethiopia.

His comment comes a few hours after Some Members of Parliament who are part of the Majority Caucus are calling for the dismissal of the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, and the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen.

The group made the announcement to the media in Parliament on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.

Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, the Member of Parliament for the Asante-Akim North Constituency, who introduced himself as the spokesperson for agitating Majority MPs group, said they decided to voice their position because several concerns sent to the government have failed to yield any positive results.
