The family of the late inventor and founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo, has appealed to former President Nana Akufo-Addo and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to intervene in ongoing disagreements over funeral arrangements.
Dr. Philip Siaw Kissi, Secretary to the family, made the appeal in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, saying the family believes both leaders, as traditional and cultural figures, can help resolve the impasse.
“I appeal to President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia. I know Adwoa Safo has gone to inform them about her father’s death, so I believe they understand Akan tradition and can call her and advise her to do the right thing,” he said.
He explained that, in most Akan and other Ghanaian traditions, family heads and elders are expected to take the lead in funeral arrangements, working together with immediate children of the deceased.
“In many traditions, especially in the Northern Region and across Ghana, the family leader works with the eldest child to decide what to do. But in this case, it appears the daughter wants to take full control even before we have seen our late father,” he stated.
Dr. Kissi stressed that the family is not seeking confrontation but insists on adherence to tradition and proper family procedures.
“We are all from families, and that is why we say the family handles everything, because they understand what is involved. We cannot abandon our traditions,” he added.
He further alleged that repeated attempts to engage Adwoa Safo have been unsuccessful.
“We have spoken with her for a long time, but she has decided not to listen to us. Even people who come around advise us to follow her lead, but we cannot ignore our family customs,” he said.
According to him, concerns have also been raised by individuals within the Kristo Asafo Mission who have attempted to intervene without success.
“Even a prominent person in the church said he would speak to her, but she has refused to pick his calls,” he claimed.
Dr. Kissi insisted that the family’s priority remains accessing the body of the late Apostle for a dignified burial in line with tradition.
“Our only concern is to see our father’s body and give him a proper burial according to custom,” he said.
Meanwhile, the family of the late Apostle Emeritus Kwadwo Safo Kantanka has announced revised funeral arrangements, with the final rites scheduled for July 30 and 31, 2026, following consultations between family representatives and church leadership.
