Hearts of Oak legend says commitment and determination on the pitch will inspire fans to return to stadiums.
Hearts of Oak legend Ishmael Addo has urged players in the Ghana Premier League to play with greater passion and commitment, stressing that football should not be driven solely by financial rewards.
Speaking to journalist Shaban Mohammed, the former Black Stars forward said players must give everything on the pitch if they want supporters to reconnect with the domestic game and return to the stadiums in large numbers.
According to Addo, fans are inspired by players who display determination, pride and a strong desire to represent their clubs, adding that commitment and entertaining performances are key to boosting attendance in the Ghana Premier League.
“Ghana Premier League players must show passion on the pitch. It’s not always about money. They need to give their all so supporters are inspired to come to the stadium and watch them every matchday,” he said.
The Ghana Premier League has, in recent years, grappled with concerns over declining matchday attendance, with stakeholders continuing to explore ways of improving the quality and appeal of the domestic competition.
